So here it is! The big day itself! As I'm starting to write this it's currently 3pm in the afternoon and it's a windy, rainy, horrible day outside....so if it doesn't fair up, I'll be surprised if we get many kids coming round looking for treats, but we'll wait and see and also hold on to the treats for a couple of days in case they're waiting for better weather!
I've been looking for things to post and was happy to see that the BBC have posted two videos, the first being a look at odd rituals that were taking place in Norfolk, and the second being a Whicker's World video I had previously posted on the blog, but which the BBC had copyright claimed on and mad it disappear, so I'm happy to see that back. It means I can share it and the other video here, and also fix a broken post from before!
Let's head to the Digital Comic Museum for the las time this year next, and take a look at Triumph Over Terror, a story that warns how dangerous it might be for sci-fi writers to keep predicting the future! It comes from the pages of Standard's Fantastic Worlds, issue 5, dated September 1952, and was uploaded to the archive by the user Tigger.
*Edit* Just not long after I posted this, my brother put the finishing touches to this year's Hallowscream! You can download it by clicking here!
We just had our first Guiser / Trick or Treater... a wonderfully dressed mini-vampire! It was kinda sas, as I watched them draw up to the door and come out all excited, as my mum usually has a great display up for them. Obviously this year, with the passing of my great-nephew under a week ago, we're a bit less all in than previous years, and as such have toned down the decorations and celebration a lot. Octobers are going to be a bit different from now on I think...
But what made it even sadder, and made me more determined to carry on celebrating, was the fact that after coming to our door, th elittle vampire got back in their parents car and headed away again. The didn't go to any other houses in our row. Because it's mainly us who celebrate, and obviously they haven't been getting any luck from the other houses year after year and so have given up......
This is maybe because more and more people are starting to believe the hype in Britain, that Halloween is an American import, rather than Scottish and Irish, and pretending to be out so they don't have to give out treats...which was something that always happened, but not at almost every house. I've seen more articles and Youtube videos this year than ever before, speaking about how Halloween has invaded, and become a commercialisation and replacement for Bonfire night, which is only the case, if at all, in England. People forget that Bonfire Night was itself an off-shoot from Halloween, with bonfires originally taking place tonight!
Well, I hope that wherever you are, you're celebrating in style! At least some of us are keeping the traditions alive....Lang may yir pumpkins shine!!!
In fact, I bet if you head over to the Countdown to Halloween hub right now, you'll see just how much everybody is celebrating! Just click that badge below, and have a bloody good one everyone!!!
🎃Happy Halloween to you and your loved ones!🧡
